At Storm Windows, we specialise in bespoke secondary glazing designed specifically for period, listed and historic properties. Our handcrafted glazing panels blend seamlessly with your existing windows, preserving the character of your home while boosting energy efficiency.
We’re proud to be the first UK installers of ORAÉ® low-carbon glass — an innovative glazing product made with 64% recycled glass. ORAÉ® delivers exceptional quality and outstanding thermal efficiency, making it the perfect choice for period homes.
Our bespoke secondary glazing can be tailor-made to fit windows of any shape and size, including feature windows and glazed roofs. What's more, it conforms with listed building regulations. It also delivers on:
- Thermal efficiency: By creating a thermal break, our glazing prevents cold transfer, helping you stay warm and reducing heating costs. It can increase a home’s thermal efficiency by up to 50%.
- Discreet and unobtrusive: Our handcrafted secondary glazing is virtually invisible making it the perfect solution for listed and historic properties.
- Acoustic protection: Providing outstanding protection from outside noise, our secondary glazing can reduce noise pollution by up to 80%.
Finally, making upgrades such as secondary glazing is now affordable thanks to our homeowners' finance. Our interest-free payment plan allows homeowners to spread the cost of installing a secondary double-glazing system over 12 months.

The UK’s most famous pensioners enjoy the benefits of secondary glazing
With their distinctive redcoats and fascinating personal histories, the Chelsea Pensioners are arguably the UK’s most famous retirees. The Royal Chelsea Hospital residents are deserved beneficiaries of a purpose-built safe haven for elderly veterans, which King Charles II initiated in the 17th century. The 300 veterans who live there have all served at least 12 years in the British Armed Forces.
Over recent years, the building has been undergoing extensive renovation and modernisation while being sensitive to its historic fabric and aesthetic legacy. This £1,300,000 restoration brings the West Wing up to 21st-century standards allowing residents to have their own bedroom with en suite shower room facilities and study.
As part of this process, the overall energy efficiency of the building needed to be improved. Storm Windows, specialists in providing bespoke secondary glazing for historic buildings, were commissioned to fit secondary glazing at the hospital. The aim was to make each room warmer and more comfortable for the residents, while driving down energy costs. The updates also had to be in keeping with the overall aesthetic of the building.
Storm Windows was commissioned to take on this important task thanks to their experience working with historic buildings and their commitment to innovation. Their new, improved unit allows for windows to be fully opened, has better ventilation and is spring adapted.
As well as large-scale renovations on famous listed buildings, Storm Windows also provides secondary glazing for more modest properties.
Reviving history: The transformation of All Saints Church into a family home
Across the UK, many churches and chapels fall into disrepair after closing. Fortunately, with thoughtful renovation, these historic buildings can be repurposed rather than lost.
All Saints Church in Swansea, built in 1845 by the wealthy Grenfell family, is one such building. Due to dwindling congregations, it was closed in 2015. After an initial failed planning application and years of vandalism, a new plan was approved, allowing its transformation into a five-bedroom family home.
Like many old churches, All Saints faced significant challenges, particularly in terms of insulation and energy efficiency.
The new owners contacted Storm Windows for a solution to protect and enhance the original stained-glass windows. Having worked on similar church projects, including All Saints Church in Hawkhurst, Kent, and Capel Nant near Abersoch, Storm was well-prepared for the task.
Director Mitchell Reece conducted a survey and confirmed that bespoke secondary glazing could be fitted without compromising the integrity of the windows. Careful paper templates were made to ensure a precise fit, particularly for the large three-panelled altar window, which stands 4.5 metres tall.
All Saints will now benefit from ORAÉ® low-carbon glass – an innovative glazing made from 64% recycled glass – enhancing thermal efficiency while preserving its historic character.
Thanks to careful planning and expert craftsmanship, the new owners will soon enjoy a warm, comfortable home within this beautifully restored piece of history.
