Protek site insurance

Site insurance is essential when you are carrying out a self build, renovation, extension or conversion project. The policy provides cover for the new works, materials, liability and other risks faced during the project.

Site insurance is normally taken out at the point of ‘exchange of contracts’ or immediately prior to works starting, and cover then continues through the construction process until the project is completed and taken into use.

The policy has been specifically designed to provide cover against the physical loss or damage that is inherent in the type of building project being undertaken.

Site insurance provides cover in two main ways:

• Physical damage: It helps protect you against physical loss or damage to the works, materials, plant, caravans, tools and equipment used throughout the project. A fire loss, accidental damage, weather-related loss, theft and vandalism all fall into this area of site insurance cover.
• Liability: This section covers your liability in the event you inadvertently damage someone else’s property or cause injury to another person during the course of the build. The effects of damaging a neighbouring property are easily understood, but you may also have responsibility for Health & Safety on the site and an injured worker could sue you following an accident, however minor. This is why it is essential to cover your liability.
