Glazing is fundamental to the design of this single-storey home with a central courtyard. The full-height glazing provides inside to outside connectivity. Glazed links allow the house to sit within the garden landscape, with glass openings directing the views out towards the trees and wildflower meadows.
The couple behind this project chose ecoHaus to supply and install Internorm triple glazing. The corner-to-corner glass window design is a bespoke structural glass construction sealed together without any framework for uninterrupted views.
ecoHaus’ Craig Luff explains: “The high-strength structural glazing silicone provides stability for the joint glass panes as well as weatherproofing, allowing the configuration to accommodate thermal expansions or contractions that naturally occur when temperatures fluctuate.”
The security benefits of the Internorm product were also a big factor in the homeowners' decision making. Triple glazing offers 54mm of glazing as opposed to 24mm for double glazing. The windows are Secured By Design accredited and PAS 24 certified.

The clients chose ecoHaus for their unique expertise in installing glazing for large, bespoke, architect-designed houses. “The courtyard glazing is 22.5m of continuous glazing. Understandably, we required a company who had the skills and experience to deliver and achieve a high-quality finish,” they say.
Capturing the views with energy-efficient glazing

Placed some three meters above road level, this new build benefits from panoramic views out over the surrounding Cornish countryside. The architect was keen to maximise the glazing to capture these views, with sliding doors to easily allow the indoor spaces to spill outdoors.
The Internorm HS330 lift and slide doors feature a glass corner to enjoy the rural views. “The corner glazing is a real focal point of the design. From within the house, the glazing captures the views, blurs the boundaries between outside and in, and creates a calm, light-filled space,” says the architect.
The aluminium exterior is finished in RAL 7021 ‘Basalt Grey’ — a popular colour for a neutral and timeless finish that complements the western red cedar cladding which will silver naturally over time. “The pale washed natural wood inner and sleek metal outer, combined with tasteful accessories, enabled a sliding door that complements the style and quality of the house.”
The Internorm HS330 sliding doors are triple glazed and achieve U-values of 0.73 for exceptional thermal performance all year round.

A tailored turnkey service

This Cotswold home had already been extended twice by previous owners but lacked the open space to make it work as a family home. The couple worked with their architect to create a large open-plan kitchen as the central focus of the home.
When it came to the windows and doors, the clients knew they wanted a modern look. They opted for Internorm HV450 windows with integrated solar PV blinds upstairs. “It’s amazing to have the option to have black out blinds at the touch of a button in all our bedrooms,” they say.
Downstairs they wanted slim-look sliding doors to the rear to maximise the glass area of the sliders and chose the Visiline 3 high performance sliders and the Alu 5 tilt and turn windows (which from the outside paired well with the Internorm range).
“It was brilliant to be able to pick and mix on the range of products and yet still achieve a seamless aesthetic finish," say the homeowners.
