Self-build mortgages are no different to conventional mortgages – the lenders will often be
happy to lend you the money as long as they are confident you will be able to keep up with
your repayments and that the final built property will meet its valuation

Different Types of Self-Build Mortgage

It is sometimes common practice for a self-build mortgage to use the practice of releasing money in stages as the property is completed.

A self build mortgage is suitable for you as long as you are 18 years or over and have
sufficient income to pay your self build loan back (most lenders require that your loan be no
greater than 4.5 x your annual income). You will usually require a deposit of at least 20% of
the purchase price, plus sufficient savings to ensure you can cover any related costs, prior to
receiving the first drawdown of funds from the lender.
