Octopus launches £100 heat pump and solar referral scheme
The energy company says it is trying to drive more householders to renewable energy
Octopus Energy has launched the UK’s first heat pump and solar referral scheme – offering residents £100 for every heat pump or solar panel installed.
The scheme is aimed at encouraging recommendations for solar panels and/or ground or air source heat pumps as the company says the scheme aims to rapidly raise clean heating devices and help reduce the UK’s emissions.
It comes as the government announces a significant surge in demand for heat pumps, with applications for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant increasing by 75% in February compared to the same period last year.
What is the heat pump and solar referral scheme?
Many homeowners are installing an air source heat pump or solar panels in a bid to bring down sky-high energy prices and reduce the carbon footprint of their heating and hot water.
Anyone who gets a heat pump or solar system installation from Octopus can refer friends and family for their own heat pump or solar power installation.
Once an Octopus customer has signed their final sales agreement, the company will send over a unique referral code.
To refer a friend or family member for a heat pump or solar installation, the customer shares the code and asks them to provide it to their solar or heat pump specialist at any point before their final sales agreement is signed.

Octopus announces over £100m given to customers in referral payments
Since launching to the market, Octopus Energy has paid out nearly £100 million in referrals to customers.
The firm claims that by switching to a specialist heat pump tariff like Cosy Octopus, households can save £222 a year compared to running a boiler.
Rebecca Dibb-Simkin, Chief Product Officer at Octopus Energy, said: “Nothing makes us happier than satisfied customers, and we’re incredibly proud that so many have referred us to their friends and family over the years.
“Our approach has always been to put money back into people’s pockets, and we’ll happily give away another £100 million in referrals as savvy customers take advantage of our heat pump offer – and help speed up the clean heating revolution along the way.”
