EDF launches 'Britain's first' solar tariff with no standing charge that offers 10 solar panels for £8,495
The scheme could save new customers £800 a year by only charging customers for the energy they actually use
EDF has introduced a no-standing-charge solar tariff that it claims is the first in Britain and could save homeowners up to £800 a year.
The Empower Exclusive tariff is tailored for those installing solar panels and batteries, aiming to combat energy price rises by charging only for the energy they actually use.
What is EDF's Empower Exclusive tariff?
The Empower Exclusive tariff offers no standing charges, helping homeowners maximise their savings.
Standing charges are fixed daily fees covering energy supply costs, ranging from 5p to 60p per day for electricity and 10p to 80p per day for gas. These costs can accumulate significantly potentially totalling up to £292 annually even if no energy is consumed.
However, homeowners installing a solar panel and battery package with EDF's no-standing-charge solar tariff can avoid these fees as well as save over £800 annually compared to standard variable tariffs.
The tariff also features a daily three-hour window (1am to 4am) offering discounted, zero-carbon electricity to optimise battery charging.
By generating and storing electricity homeowners can reduce reliance on the grid during peak hours, further cutting energy costs and carbon emissions.
